Japan's Komeda's Coffee Opens First Thailand Store, Sets Sights on a 180-Outlet Asia Network

Komeda's Coffee, the Nagoya-founded coffee chain known for its retro kissaten-style dining rooms and free toast served with morning coffee orders, opened its first Thailand store at the Exchange One commercial and office complex in Bangkok in the week of August 17-23, according to reporting from World Coffee Portal and Nikkei Asia. The chain operates close to 1,000 locations across Japan and already runs stores in Singapore and Indonesia.
Komeda Holdings has set a target of roughly 180 outlets across its overseas Asian network as it uses Thailand as the next stage of a regional push, betting that its all-day breakfast-set format and unhurried, multi-hour dining-room culture can differentiate it from the faster-turnover coffee chains already established across Bangkok.
The Bangkok debut continues a broader pattern of Japanese food-and-beverage brands treating Southeast Asia's expanding café culture and urban middle class as their next growth stage once the home market approaches saturation — a dynamic that has also shaped recent Korean and Vietnamese brand expansions into the same cities.
For regional landlords and F&B operators, the choice of Exchange One is also a signal of what an international café brand looks for in its flagship location: a mixed office-and-retail complex offering the steady, multi-daypart foot traffic that Komeda's format is built to serve.
