Ediya Coffee Opens First Laos Store as Korean Café Franchises Push Deeper Into Southeast Asia

Ediya Coffee, one of South Korea's largest coffee chains by store count, opened its first Laos location on August 8 in the Patuxai district of Vientiane, inside the newly opened KokKok Mega Mall. The roughly 200-square-meter store serves Ediya's Korean-style menu, including its signature dalgona latte, and was built under a master franchise agreement Ediya signed last year with Grandview Property Sole, a subsidiary of Lao private conglomerate Kolao Group.

The agreement extends beyond Laos: Ediya and Grandview Property are also set to cooperate on opening stores in Cambodia and Myanmar, with the Vientiane location intended as an operating base and localization testbed for the wider rollout rather than a one-off launch.

The opening lands inside a broader trend flagged by Korean business press in mid-August: Korean restaurant and café franchises, long concentrated in Vietnam, are increasingly signing master franchise deals across Singapore, the Philippines, Laos and Brunei as operators look for markets with less saturated competition than Vietnam's now-crowded F&B scene.

For Southeast Asian markets outside the traditional Vietnam-Thailand-Indonesia core, the pattern is notable: Laos, Cambodia and Myanmar are increasingly being packaged together into single master franchise territories by outside operators, rather than developed market by market — a structure worth watching for any regional brand weighing its own frontier-market expansion.
